Welcome back to yet another episode of Octavia making stupid decisions.
Today’s stupid decision being…
Spending an embarrassing amount of money on books that I probably don’t need.
Last week I was reflecting on how I’ve done a great job of NOT splurging on books this year, so I thought, why not reward myself with a few books as a special treat? And let’s just say that I went wayyyyyy overboard. Since the shelter in place order was announced in my area, I’ve been trapped inside my house with nothing to do but browse on Amazon and, naturally, add an insane number of books to my cart. So keep in mind that the books I’m going to show you in today’s haul are only a fraction of all the books I wanted to buy since I had to eliminate so many.
Despite the fact that I am now VERY broke, I’m super excited to read these new books with all of the free time I now have. Without further ado, allow me to introduce the books that I flushed my wallet down the toilet for!
I’m reading this one right now! I appreciate all of the world-building and character development SJM is doing in this book, but it’s reallyyyyy slow so far. So many characters and places are being introduced, often in the form of info-dumps. I’ve heard from other readers that the plot picks up in the middle of the book, so I’m crossing my fingers!
Don’t judge me, but I bought this one mainly because of the beautiful cover! I’m a little scared to read it though, because I’ve heard that this book is not for the faint of heart. There’s supposed to be a TON of violence and gore, so you have to be pretty brave to tackle this one… I think I’m up for the challenge! Also, I recently read this author’s newest release, Mermaid Moon, and I’m eager to get my hands on more of her work!
I’d much prefer a Hunger Game’s spin-off book than a prequel (KATNISS AND PEETA’S KIDS 😍), but I’ll take whatever I can get. But if this book is about to make me feel SORRY for President Snow, I don’t want it 😂 (Actually that’s a lie, I will literally read ANYTHING Suzanne Collins gives me, even if it makes me sympathize with my least favorite character ever).
From what I’ve heard, people either really love this book, or really hate it. I’m hoping to fall into the former category! I have such high hopes for this book, and I really hope it lives up to my expectations!
I’m up for any book that has an enemies-to-lovers romance in it! This book’s synopsis sounds very promising, and it has countless five star reviews. Also, I’m pretty sure that the sequel, Blood & Honey, comes out in the near future, so I want to read this one as soon as I possibly can!
I absolutely adore retellings, and I haven’t read a Sleeping Beauty one in a long time. I can’t remember how I stumbled across this book, but I can definitely say that I don’t know how I’ve only just discovered it now. The cover is spectacularly gorgeous as well, and I can’t wait to add it to my bookshelf (if I can even find space for it, that is)! 😂
I can’t even begin to describe how excited I am for this one! It sounds like such a dark and sinister read (my favorite type of book)! Plus, like Serpent & Dove, this book has an enemies-to-lovers romance, and I am so down for it!
I don’t know too much about this one, just that it has mermaids, pirates, and magic… need I say more? I loveeeee mermaid books, and I feel like this one could potentially be a new favorite. Also, the cover is sooooo pretty!
I haven’t read much adult fantasy, so I’m looking forward to reading The Queen of Blood. I first heard about it on booktube a couple months ago, and it’s been on my TBR ever since. I’m so excited to finally read it!
Any book that gets an average rating above 4 stars on Goodreads immediately gets my attention. This popular vampire book gets so much hype, and I think it’s time for me to find out whether or not it deserves it!
This is another super hyped up book! I know very little about this one, but I’m just going to trust the many people who have recommended it to me and give it a shot. The synopsis doesn’t sound like something I’d typically gravitate towards, so this book is definitely a little outside of my comfort zone!
Okay, okay, I’m finally done.
No more books, I swear. I give you all permission to judge me for being very stupid and irresponsible with my money! 😂 Despite the fact that I am now extremely broke, I can’t say I regret buying all these books… They will definitely keep me busy during quarantine!
Have you read any of the books on this list? If so, did you enjoy them? What are you reading during quarantine?
I hope you’re all staying safe and healthy!
P.S. Last night, without thinking, I kinda completely renovated my blog! I changed my blog’s name to Mermaid Reads (it was formerly Mythical Reads), and I changed my logo as well. I just thought it was time for a change, you know? Let me know what you think! (I hope this cleared up any confusion)
